QE Institute Research and Capacity Building Grant
2023-24 QE Institute Cohort
Introduction
The QE Fellows Institute is an NSF-funded program to train researchers in the methods and techniques of quantitative ethnography (QE). The institute brings together cohorts of fellows for a subsidized, week-long training at the University of Wisconsin–Madison in July, supplemented by regular online sessions with internationally recognized QE experts.
Members of each cohort of QE Fellows are eligible to apply for exclusive funding intended to support their own QE research.

Anticipated funding amount: Up to $4,999 per award
Eligibility Information
Fellows from the QE Institute may submit one proposal at the end of their cohort year. Fellows in the 2023-24 cohort are eligible to apply for funding under this request for proposals.
Proposal Preparation and Submission Instructions

Proposals should be no more than 2 pages using this template.
- Motivation. This section should explain why you are applying for the grant and what broader research, professional development, or capacity-building goals your project will support.
- Project Description. This section should explain your QE research and/or capacity development project. Be sure to specify what you will do with this funding to advance your research or training and how this project will enable you to pursue additional funding or other long-term goals.
- Budget Narrative. Provide a brief explanation of how you anticipate using the funds to accomplish the research and/or capacity building project described in the previous section.
Due Dates
Sept. 2, 2024 – Due date for proposal submissions
Nov. 3, 2025 – Due date for final report detailing the outcomes of the project
Review Procedures & Selection Process
Proposals will be reviewed by the instructional team from a given cohort year with the entire process managed by the PI of the QE institute. Selections will be based on the intellectual merit and the potential broader impacts of the proposals as well as alignment with NSF’s STEM education research capacity-building goals .
Award Administration Information
Funding decisions will be communicated no later than Sept. 30, 2024.
Recipients will need to be able to submit a valid W-9 in order to receive funds. Please note that funds will be awarded as a one-time payment to a single individual. This payment is subject to taxation.
As a condition of receiving funding, awardees must submit a one-page report summarizing accomplishments, products, outcomes, and/or, impacts of the project. Reports are due on Nov. 2, 2024, and should be submitted to: Qesummerinstitute@Gmail.Com
