Damani White-Lewis is an assistant professor in the Graduate School of Education at the University of Pennsylvania. He studies postsecondary education, with specific focus on academic careers, contexts, and norms in the U.S. and abroad. A mixed methodologist, he blends insights from organizational behavior, social psychology, and critical studies to inform higher education policies and practices concerning how faculty are trained, hired, evaluated, promoted, and retained. His work has been funded by the National Institutes of Health (NIH), National Science Foundation (NSF), The Alfred P. Sloan Foundation, The Nazarbayev Fund and more. He has won numerous awards from educational organizations for his research, which has been published in top education journals like American Educational Research Journal, The Journal of Higher Education, Research in Higher Education, and others. As a recognized teacher and community member, he received the 2025 Penn GSE Excellence in Teaching Award, and the 2024 Penn GSE Recognition of Outstanding Service Award. Dr. White-Lewis received his Ph.D. in higher education & organizational change from UCLA.
